Here’s the deal: learning to play a musical style can get really complicated, really fast. Using the idea of vocabulary VASTLY reduces the amount of time and ‘stuff’ you’ll use, making learning the style MUCH quicker. Remember when you were in school and wondered ‘Why do I have to learn this chemistry principle, Why do I have to learn negative integers”? You knew back then that it doesn’t make sense to waste your time on things that don’t ultimately matter. So don’t waste your time learning a bunch of fingerings and scales that don’t matter.
I get it, if you REALLY want to learn a style you need to get into the theory, fingerings, etc. But that’s just way too much at first. It’s much better to get your hands dirty with the things that matter first – the actual music and phrases that have made the music that you love sound amazing.
Bonus – Backing Tracks
As a special bonus, I am including a set of backing tracks that you can use to practice all the licks that you’re learning here. This is an indispensable tool – make this stuff come alive!
